During the ride from Capitol Reef National Park to Bryce Canyon National Park, we pass Calf Creek Falls. The official name of this waterfall is Lower Calf Creek Falls, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The waterfall can also be seen from Highway 12 and the closest point is only 300 meter from the road. Only the rock wall is too steep to walk down.
From BLM Calf Creek Recreation Area the 11 km long walk is a nice change from the RV road trip. In the Calf Creek Recreation Area, we pay $ 2 to park our RV. We walk across the campground to the start of the hike to Lower Calf Creek Falls.
We take a trail discription at the beginning of the walk. In it are numbered places where additional explanation is given about the flora and fauna on the way to Lower Calf Creek Falls. The walk is not very difficult and is fairly flat. Only through the loose sand you will not find it an easy walk. We have the opinion that the walk is not light due to the heat. But the walk is not really difficult either. Along the Calf Creek we walk reasonably straight towards the waterfall. The waterfall is well worth the walk! And the water is ice cold. It is not hot at all at the waterfall, so if you overheat, the waterfall is a nice place to cool down. We lunch on a log with our eyes on the Lower Calf Creek Falls. After lunch we walk back towards the camper and drive on towards Bryce Canyon.
