Who wants to know how Terschelling looked like before man settled on the island, has to pay a visit to the east part of Terschelling, the Boschplaat. In this European nature park are a couple of walking paths through this beautiful part of nature. The area is special because of its Slenken. The clay and salt water flow provide a varied nature. About 65 different species of birds live in the Boschplaat. There are also growing several special plants growing on the Boschplaat on Terschelling.

We park our bikes between pole 19 and pole 20. We cross the dunes and walk the first part on the beach. We pass the drenkelingershuisje (Huske op e Slenk). We continue our walk on the beach until the Amerlanderduin. If the weather permits, you can see the lighthouse of Ameland.
From here we walk through the Boschplaat back to the parking for bicycles. The first dune we walk along is the Derk Hoekstrastuifduin. Then we walk along the Stuifduin. Here and there the track is muddy by frequent rainfall, but is passable. During the walk we have continuously very nice views on all sides. This tour is for nature lovers definitely worth it!

Part of the area is from March 15 to August 15 not accessible because of the breeding season of birds. The footpath between the dunes and Boschplaat is open all year round.

There is no restaurant along the way. Bring your own food and drinks.

Length: about 19 km.
Height difference: none
