Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park is situated in Overijssel, approximately between Hellendoorn and Holten, on the border of Salland and Twente. The area is managed by the Forestry Commission and the association of nature. The Sallandse Heuvelrug is a moraine that originated in the penultimate glaciation, the Saalian. The Holterberg, Haarlerberg, Noetselerberg and Koningsbelten are situated in the national park. The mountains Hellendoornse berg and Eelerberg lie outside the park, but are part of the Sallandse Heuvelrug. The highest point is the Koninsbelten with a height of 75 meters. The Lemelerberg does not belong to the Sallandse Heuvelrug, but can be well combined with a visit to the region.

In the national park the Sallandse Heuvelrug is the last grouse population present in the Netherlands. The viviparous lizard and nightjar and sand lizard are also found in National Park the Sallandse Heuvelrug. Natuurmonumenten also has a number of Scottish Highland cattle for grazing. The area consists mainly of heath and woodland including lingon berries.

The Sallandse Heuvelrug has many opportunities for activities. In addition to several hiking trails, there are many cycling and mountain biking trails. In addition there is the amusement park "Avonturenpark Hellendoorn and the land house “The Sprengenberg”. The Pieterpad also passes through the Sallandse Heuvelrug. For a weekend or holiday in your own country there are many campsites, hotels and resorts in the area. For hiking, you can contact the visitor center along the road between Nijverdal and Zwolle.
