Walking in the Montferland and the Bergherbos in Gelderland

Near the German border between Beek, Zeddam and 's Heerenberg lies a very beautiful nature park. The hilly Montferland is one of the parks of Natuurmonumenten. Montferland is visible from far and anyone driving the A 3 in Germany is driving through this nature park. Those who enjoy walking, be sure to stop and walk one of the many marked walks.

Montferland is a varied nature park. It is location on the lateral moraine that means also that there is variation in height. But there is also varied vegetation in the Montferland. Large pieces of pine trees, fir trees, but also heaths, sandy plains and open fields can be seen while walking through the Montferland. The diversity of vegetation is also creating a great diversity of animals. In in the Montferland live about 70 different species of birds. But badgers and deer are also common in the Montferland.
Montferland consists of the Korterbos, the Galgenberg, Bergherbos and the Rijsbergen.

Natuurmonumenten has several walking trails set out in the Montferland. But there are also mountain bike trails and bridle paths. Hikers do not need a license to walk through the Montferland. Mountain bikers and horse riders must stay on designated trails.
