For a hiking holiday we left in May to the Alpujarras in the Sierra Nevada in Andalusia in Spain. We stayed in a holiday home in Orgiva, the capital of the Alpujarras. From our house we drove with a rental car to several walks. In our two weeks holiday in the Alpujarras in the Sierra Nevada, we have made 11 walks. Most walks are circular walks we have made and start and end at the same place.

For our walking holiday we left the last two weeks of May to the Sierra Nevada and the Alpujarras in Spain. The first week the temperature was still pleasant, the second week it became very warm. The high mountains in the Sierra Nevada, however, mean that there is a possibility to hike to altitude. Leaving for a walking holiday to the Sierra Nevada is not recommended between May and September, it's really hot. Also, not all local routes as well maintained. Where this is the case, it is reported in the travelogue. We really enjoyed our hiking holiday in the Sierra Nevada and the Alpujarras in Andalusia in southern Spain.

The Sierra Nevada is a large mountain range in southern Spain, near the coasts. The largest town in the Sierra Nevada is Granada. Around the mountains are several small traditional villages. Almost the entire mountain massif of the Sierra Nevada belongs to the Sierra Nevada National Park. The Sierra Nevada National Park is the second highest mountain range in Europe with 16 peaks above 3000 m. The nature in the Sierra Nevada National Park is very diverse in nature and the climate because of the high mountains. The versatility in nature means there is a variety in animals which also live in the Sierra Nevada, such as wild boar, mountain goats and snakes (including a venomous snake species). On the left you will find all the walks that we have walked in Sierra Nevada National Park in the Alpujarras.
