Tower Bridge and the Tower of London - London - England - UK

London flag

We walked to the Tower Bridge a couple of times, but it was either very busy or closed. The last time we were lucky, it was open and we went in. It it very nice to have a look at the the bridge itself. The view from the bridge is beautifull, providing it isn't a foggy day.

The Tower Bridge is een bascule bridge across the Thames in London. The construction was completed in 1894 and it's a tourist attraction in the current day. The original mechanism for opening an closing the bridge was hydraulic. Currently the bridge is opened electronically, but the original steam machines are preserved as an attraction. The Tower Bridge gets it's name from the nearby Tower of London.

The Tower of London is a fortress that was also used as a prison. The crown jewels of the english crown are also kept here. The White Tower was built in 1078 by William the Conqueror. Currently it is mainly a tourist attraction because of the crown jewels and collection of armours and other arms.
