We arrive after a long car ride from Campbell River to Pacific Rim National Park on the west coast of Vancouver Island. At the information center at the intersection with the Pacific Rim Highway and the Tofino - Ucluelet Highway and we ask for hiking information. We get a map with which all marked hiking trails in the Pacific Rim National Park on it. Given time we have left this day, we decide to drive to South Beach. South Beach is located on the Ucluelet side of the Pacific Rim National Park on Vancouver Island.

We park our car at the information center near South Beach in the Pacific Rim National Park. The path to South Beach is located on the left side of the information center and the first part is tarmac. We walk along the paved hiking trail and have here and there very nice views over the wild waves along the coast of the Pacific Rim National Park on Vancouver Island. We arrive at a small bay but we don’t know if this is already South Beach. There is no sign in and we forgot to take a picture of hiking map at the beginning of the trail. We walk back to the parking to have a look at the map.

It turned out that we hadn’t walked far enough yet to arrive at South Beach. We decide to walk a bit further. At the end of the small bay we have been already there is a deck path going up. At the top we descend via stair and enter South Beach.

We arrive at South Beach where we stare about a half hour to the beautiful waves and walk along the beach. Then it's time to return to the car. From the distance we can see bad weather coming in quickly ad we want to be back at the car before all hell breaks loose. About 50 meters still to go to the car and the rain starts pouring from the sky and we seek shelter under an information panel. In the pouring rain we drive to Ucluelet, our beautiful B & B for 3 nights.

The walk to South Beach is not very spectacular. Along the way you do have however stunning views over the coast and walk through rainforest is fun. The South Beach is one of the nicer beaches in the Pacific Rim National Park on Vancouver Island.
