After our walk through Maligne Canyon it is too early to go to the B & B to go and too late for a really long walk. So we decide to drive the Icefields Parkway and just outside Jasper go for a hike through the Valley of the Five Lakes.

We park our car at the parking lot near the Valley of the Five Lakes. According to the description it is an easy walk of 5 km without too much height difference. So an ideal walk for a one and half hour that we have left. We pack our backpacks and begin our hike.

The first part of the walk is indeed flat and through the forest. And at the end of the forest, we descend to a small but very nice valley. But on the other side of the valley, the trail goes fairly steeply up again. Here we arrive at the junction between 9a and 9b. We look at the map and decide to walk over 9a and 9b back.

We walk further and still have some hills and valleys to hike before we arrive at the lakes. Eventually we see the first green lake, Fifth Lake. Given the time, most of the tourists are gone and it is very quiet at the lake. The view on this green Fifth Lake is incredibly beautiful. The ducks swim peacefully across the lake and there are a few boats for those who want to row the lake. We continue our walk to the Fourth Lake, Third Lake and Second Lake. Each lake in the Valley of the Five Lakes is breathtakingly beautiful. The clear water, the reflection of the trees and the sun in the water, this walk is pure delight for nature lovers.

After Second Lake, we take the path 9b back to the parking lot. It's too late to even go to First Lake to walk, so today we take the short variant. The path back to the Valley of the Five Lakes is much flatter than the way in. And through a beautiful forest we walk back to the intersection of the paths. From here we quickly reach the car and drive back to Jasper.

This walk through the Valley of the Five Lakes in Jasper National Park is incredibly beautiful. But the walk is not as flat as in the books described.

Length: 5 km
Height: Due to the sloping nature about 100 meters
