We leave early in the morning from our hotel Auberge le Temps des Saveurs in Paliseul to Herbeumont in the Ardennes in Belgium for a nice walk. After a short drive we arrive in Herbeumont. The road that we want to drive to the parking lot of our walk is closed. But we quickly see at the right side of the Rue Champs Simon a parking lot that runs along our trail. We park our car and start our walk at Herbeumont in the Ardennes in Belgium.

We walk to the trail and onto a long dirt road carved through the rocks. We walk under a beautiful bridge and arrive soon to the car park where we had planned to park our car. From the parking area we walk through a nice park towards the centre of Herbeumont. Here we turn right and walk over the bridge back, just above where we just walked. From this bridge we have a beautiful view over the path we just walked. From the bridge we walk to the ruins of the castle of Herbeumont.

The castle of Herbeumont was built in the 13th century. And served as home for 4 large men: The family d'Orjo (1268-1420), La Marck family-Rochefort (1420 - 1544), Stolberg (1544-1574) and Lowenstein (1574-1796). Over the years the castle was several times changed, including the expansion and more defences. During the Thirty Years War the castle was destroyed and rebuilt several times. Eventually in 1657 the castle was captured by Marshal La Ferte that lets dismantle the defences, which left the castle of Herbeumont decays. The ruins of the Castle of Herbeumont are partly restored and are open to tourists. From the castle of Herbeumont you have very nice views over Le Tombeau du Chevalier, Herbeumont and Ardennes of Belgium.

After visiting the ruins of the castle of Herbeumont and enjoyed the nice views, we walk towards the le Tombeau du Chevalier. The walking path runs steeply down along a steep cliff. But we are quickly down and we walk to the le Tombeau du Chevalier. The first part of the walking path through the le Tombeau du Chevalier runs through a beautiful forest. We spotted while walking only dead animals along the walking path. Soon we walk along the banks of the La Semois. While walking, we have very nice views over the Le Semois near Herbeumont in the Ardennes in Belgium. We walk to the end of the le Tombeau du Chevalier and leave the banks of the La Semois for a small part walking along a tarmac road.

We walk towards a large bridge over the La Semois. Here we must descend to the banks of the La Sambre, but the mountain is very steep. After some searching we find the walking trail down and arrive near a campsite. Here we walk along the banks of the La Semois. There are several benches along the walkway along the banks of the La Semois. And at one of the benches, we break with a very nice view. In a large picnic area we leave the shores of La Semois and walk in the direction of Herbeumont.
Through the valley La Vallée de l'Antrogne we walk on a dirt road uphill again. With great pleasure we walk through a beautiful forest near Herbeumont in the Ardennes in Belgium. We continue walking along the water until we encounter the asphalt. We cross the road, turn left and walk back into the the forest. We follow the road through a beautiful production forests in the Ardennes back in the direction of Herbeumont. When we hit an asphalt road we follow this until the first signs of a village. Here we turn right and turn quickly right again into the forest. Over the forest path we walk back to the car in Herbeumont in the Ardennes in Belgium. After a nice walk we are back at the car and drive to the hotel in Paliseul.

The walk to Herbeumont is very varied and very beautiful. We haven’t seen any opportunities for buying food or drinks, so bring your own. Also, given some parts of the walk, good walking shoes are necessary.
