Grand Canary is the largest island of the Canary Islands. In the summer of 2005 we visited Grand Canary to do some walking. We rented a finca (holiday home) for two weeks in Fataga. Unfortunately the walking trails were a bit disappointing. A lot of trails aren't clearly marked and the maps aren't optimal. Later we heard from the owner of our holiday home that the government has arranged financing to improve this. In this way the government tries to get more walkers to Grand Canary.
I must say it's worth it to walk there. The landscape on Grand Canary is truly breathtaking.
Most tourists know Roque Nublo, the dunes of Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés, but Grand Canary has much more to offer. The roads are good and the directions are clear as well. So our tip is to rent a car and drive across the island. You'll be amazed at what Grand Canary has to offer!
